Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know by now Spider-Man’s future in the MCU is looking bleak. Thanks to a deal gone wrong between Sony Pictures and Marvel bossman Kevin Feige, our favourite web-slinger is now officially out of the MCU, according to reliable sources.
The deal with Sony and Marvel
According to news, Sony will most likely continue making Spider-Man movies but they will not be produced by Marvel any more. Which means Marvel will have no creative authority over the movie and MCU tie ins are a closed chapter.
What will happen in MCU?
It’s unclear how the MCU will go forward filling in voids in its universe where Spider-Man used to exist. They could simply ignore it, showing Spider-Man has officially retired from his duties and is now focused on a normal life as Peter Parker. However, they probably will not be able to use the name Spider-Man or Peter Parker, thanks to legal rights issues. (Remember X-Men?) But if Happy Hogan mentions a certain “Kid”, we’ll understand that reference.
As for Spider-Man himself, he will most likely get yet another reboot. That means a new cast and a new storyline. A new suit of course. It’s yet be decided what actually happens to Spidey but let’s hope it’s not another reboot. Honestly, it’s getting tiring!
At the time of writing this article, it’s rumoured that Sony will probably renegotiate their deal again. Here’s to hoping Tom Holland gets to stay in that suit!
Spider-man: Far from home takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame where the Avengers re-snapped the universe. So fan expectations were unusually high. Does Peter Parker deservedly carry on the legacy of his mentor Tony Stark?
Far From Home, the sequel to Homecoming, easily bests its predecessor.
Homecoming ignored repetitive things like the death of uncle Ben, the hardship of Aunt May and the origin story of Peter Parker becoming a superhero.
However, Spider-man: Far From Home ups the ante and tries something that has never been done with this character. Peter is on the verge of becoming a responsible individual, only to be hindered by teenage angst and identity crisis. For the first time, a Spider-Man film did not take place entirely in New York.
The world mourns the death of the fallen Avengers, but life goes on and Peter is prepping for a Euro trip with his school buddies. He wants to leave behind his spandex life and spend some quality time with MJ. Unbeknownst to him, aunt May packed his luggage with a suit (which will come in handy later in the film).
Peter plans to ask out MJ in Europe. The high schoolers visit Venice, Paris and other landmarks but the Euro trip goes haywire when a supervillain named the Elementals start destruction in Venice. Peter and his friends were just off a boat. He left his suit in the hotel room. with a pair of web shooters his utmost effort to stop the antagonist was not enough.
That’s when the fan-favourite Mysterio aka Quentin Beck arrives in the scene. He teams up with Peter but almost single-handedly stops the destruction. We see a glimpse of Mysterio in the opening scene of the film, where Nick Fury and Maria Hill acts as a witness.
Fury coerces a reluctant Peter to suit up and go to his secret lair. Peter finds out Quentin Beck is working with Fury to take down the Elementals. Quentin hints of a multiverse, claiming he came from Earth, just not the one Peter lives in. Throughout the movie, other versions of the Elementals make an appearance. These villains were loosely based on old Marvel characters like Hydro-Man and Molten Man, giving fans a scope to replenish some comic book memories.
To be honest, it is hard to write a no spoiler review of Far From Home, without telling enough about the plot. There’s deception, old enemies and loads of surprise to keep you on the edge of your seat. Peter inherits a pair of high tech glasses named Edith (courtesy of Tony Stark), capable of worldwide surveillance and destruction. Edith plays a central role in the movie, putting Peter on the forefront of enemies he must stop.
An entertaining thrill ride
John Watts returns in the director’s chair, and he does a good enough job to give Spider-Man the opportunity to shine as an Avenger when the world is at stake. The brilliant cast is the heart of the show, you will be occupied with laughter, emotional turmoil and gasping for more throughout the movie.
Tom Holland is impressive, but Jake Gyllenhaal’s first outing as Mysterio is something to die for. Samuel L Jackson is as charismatic as he was in the other MCU entries and seems like he’s not leaving the Marvel world anytime soon. Zendaya plays an unconventional MJ, putting a refreshing vibe on the character. Jacob Batalon’ Ned Leeds is the quintessential friend Peter needs by his side. He is super funny and provides some essential jokes to make the audience smile.
There are two post-credit scenes that might just be the best part of the movie.
Far From Home is the last MCU movie of 2019 and albeit an unmissable one.

Spider-Man fans worldwide would love to propose to their better halves through media involving the wisecracking hero. For one fan, however, the wish came true, but it wasn’t as great as he would have liked.
A Spider-Man fan named Tyler Schultz tweeted to Insomniac Games, the developer of the new Spider-Man game, a request. He wanted to propose to his girlfriend through the game.
The game devs eventually agreed, tweeting “Well ok then, who are we to say no to love?” They proceeded to put an easter egg in the game. In a specific place on the map, the movie theater reads, “Maddie will you marry me?”
Didn’t go as planned
However, by the time the game had been released, Tyler had already broken up with his now ex, Madison. As per the latest revelations from Tyler, she left him for his brother. All of this is taken from a video he uploaded to YouTube, which has been removed by the time of writing this.
Tyler tells Kotaku that the idea for this came to him from an idea of Madison. She wanted a proposal at a large convention, and Tyler had the idea to put it in a video game, which would basically do the same thing.
Easter egg to be changed
Since this has come to light, many gamers around the world have felt their hearts break. The art director of Insomniac has already tweeted an offer to change the sign as a patch. Tyler originally decided to keep the Spider-Man easter egg but eventually changed his mind.
Tyler wants to change the proposal to the name of his grandmother. She was the one who gave Tyler his first Spider-Man book. She also gave him a copy of Amazing Fantasy #15, Spider-Man’s first appearance in a comic book.
Tyler joked that the event might go down as the saddest easter-egg in gaming history.
Stay tuned for the review of the latest Spider-Man game on the PS4, to be published soon.
